The short answer
India has more business schools in the Financial Times Masters in Management (FT MiM) 2026 global top 100 than any country except France. IIM Bangalore leads India at rank 21, followed by SPJIMR at 26, IIM Ahmedabad at 27, XLRI Jamshedpur at 33 and IIM Calcutta at 39. IIM Ahmedabad recorded the highest weighted salary of any school in the list at US$199,706 three years after graduation.
Where VCNow fits: VCNow is a learning delivery partner for executive education programmes run by several of the institutes in that list. IIM Ahmedabad, XLRI Jamshedpur, IIM Calcutta and IIM Indore currently have 11 programmes open for applications through VCNow, with the earliest deadlines falling on 30 September 2026. These are executive certificate and senior management programmes for working professionals, not the full-time degrees that the FT ranks. That distinction matters, and we explain it in detail below.
What this article covers
1. Where India stands in the FT Masters in Management 2026 ranking
India has more business schools in the Financial Times Masters in Management 2026 global top 100 than any country except France, and seven of them are Indian Institutes of Management.
IIM Bangalore is the highest-ranked Indian school at number 21, up from 28 in the 2025 edition and 41 in 2024 — a twenty-place climb in two cycles. SPJIMR follows at 26, having risen nine places from 35 last year, which makes it the second-highest ranked Indian school in this edition. IIM Ahmedabad sits at 27, XLRI Jamshedpur at 33 and IIM Calcutta at 39.
On pay, IIM Ahmedabad reported the highest weighted salary of any school in the ranking at US$199,706 three years after graduation. IIM Bangalore followed at US$189,428, XLRI at US$183,994, IIM Calcutta at US$179,953, SPJIMR at US$166,372, IIM Lucknow at US$158,215 and MDI Gurgaon at US$151,603.
Read the salary numbers carefully
FT converts reported salaries into US dollars using purchasing-power-parity (PPP) rates. PPP adjustment raises figures for salaries earned in lower-cost economies, including India. A US$199,706 weighted salary is not the same as a US$199,706 cash package. It is a cost-of-living-adjusted comparison figure designed to make cross-country rankings possible. Treat it as a relative indicator of graduate earning power, not as a take-home number.
Globally, the University of St Gallen in Switzerland holds the top position, followed by Nova School of Business and Economics in Portugal and Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s Antai College in China.
2. The ranked institutes that run programmes with VCNow
Six institutions in the 2026 list are VCNow academic partners. Here is what each of them currently runs with us.
| Institute | Programmes delivered with VCNow |
|---|---|
| IIM Ahmedabad | Senior Management Programme — open for applications |
| IIM Calcutta | Three programmes — open for applications |
| XLRI – Xavier School of Management | Four programmes — open for applications |
| IIM Indore | Three programmes — open for applications |
| SPJIMR Mumbai | Executive Certificate Programme in Advanced Project Management — next batch to be announced |
| IIM Lucknow | Executive Programme in HR Analytics — next batch to be announced |
The sections that follow cover every one of these programmes that is open right now — what it teaches, who it is built for, what it costs and when applications close.
3. What the FT MiM ranking measures — and what it does not
This is the part most coverage skips, and it changes how you should use the ranking.
The FT Masters in Management ranking assesses pre-experience and early-career master’s degree programmes — the flagship full-time postgraduate degrees these schools run on campus. It draws on alumni surveys roughly three years after graduation (covering salary, salary increase, career progress and aims achieved) alongside school-reported data on faculty, international mix, gender balance and research output.
It does not rank executive certificate programmes, senior management programmes, or part-time blended courses for working professionals. So a school’s FT MiM rank is evidence about the institution — its faculty depth, research base, teaching reputation and graduate outcomes — not a score for any individual executive programme it offers.
How to use this honestly when choosing a programme
A strong FT MiM rank tells you the institute has faculty and academic infrastructure that hold up against global peers. That is genuinely relevant when you are choosing whose classroom to sit in for the next 6 to 12 months.
It tells you nothing about a specific executive programme’s curriculum fit, cohort quality, contact hours or certification value. Judge those on their own terms: syllabus, faculty named for the programme, eligibility bar, campus days, attendance requirements and what the certificate actually says.
4. VCNow’s association with these institutes
VCNow is an executive education delivery partner based in Vashi, Navi Mumbai, working with 11 academic partners across India. Six of those partners appear in the FT Masters in Management 2026 top 100: IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Calcutta, XLRI Jamshedpur, IIM Indore, SPJIMR Mumbai and IIM Lucknow.
The division of roles is straightforward. The institute owns the academic side — curriculum, faculty, assessment and certification. VCNow handles the delivery layer: the live virtual classroom technology, learning-centre infrastructure, cohort administration and learner support through the programme. The VCNow team describes itself as having pioneered videoconferencing-based executive education in India, with more than 20 years in the category and a national presence built over the past decade. VCNow reports completion rates above 95% and a 100% record on batch launches.
Sections 5 to 8 set out every programme from these partner institutes that is currently open for applications through VCNow — starting with the IIM Ahmedabad Senior Management Programme, then IIM Calcutta, XLRI Jamshedpur and IIM Indore.

10. How to choose the right programme for your stage
Rank is one input. Fit is the one that determines whether you finish the programme and use what you learn. Four practical filters:
Match the experience bar, don’t stretch it
These programmes set minimum experience thresholds for a reason — the case discussions assume you have managed the situations under debate. The open programmes span a wide range: 1 year for the XLRI certificates, 2 years for IIM Calcutta EPBCL and IIM Indore’s family business programme, 5 years for IIM Indore’s strategy and CSR programmes, 7 years for IIM Calcutta APSL and XLRI ASHA, and 10 years for the IIM Ahmedabad SMP. A cohort of genuine peers is a large part of what you are paying for.
Check the class timing against your actual week
Weekend commitments here are real and recurring: Friday evenings for IIM Calcutta APSL, Saturday afternoons for the IIMA SMP, Saturday evening plus Sunday morning for XLRI PGCBM, Sunday mornings for XLRI labour laws and IIM Indore’s Sunday programmes. Over 8 to 12 months that adds up. Look at the slot before the syllabus.
Plan the campus days early
Campus immersion is mandatory for certification in most of these programmes, and the commitment varies widely — 3 days at IIM Indore, 5 days at IIM Calcutta and XLRI, 7 days across two IIM Calcutta modules, 9 days for IIM Indore’s family business programme and 12 days across three visits for the IIMA SMP. Get leave cleared before you pay an instalment, not after.
Read what the certificate actually says
The wording differs meaningfully. XLRI PGCBM and PGCHRM award a Postgraduate Certificate with XLRI alumni status. IIM Calcutta programmes award a Certificate of Completion with Executive Education alumni status. IIM Indore programmes award a Certificate of Completion, with alumni status available through separate paid membership. XLRI ASHA distinguishes between a Certificate of Completion at 70% attendance and a Certificate of Participation at 50%. None of these is a degree, and none should be described as one.

11. Frequently asked questions
Where does India stand in the FT Masters in Management 2026 ranking?
India has more business schools in the FT Masters in Management 2026 global top 100 than any country except France, and seven of them are IIMs. IIM Bangalore leads India at rank 21, followed by SPJIMR at 26, IIM Ahmedabad at 27, XLRI at 33 and IIM Calcutta at 39.
Which Indian school reported the highest salary in the FT MiM 2026 ranking?
IIM Ahmedabad, at a weighted salary of US$199,706 three years after graduation — the highest figure of any school in the ranking. IIM Bangalore followed at US$189,428 and XLRI at US$183,994. These are purchasing-power-parity-adjusted figures used for cross-country comparison, not actual cash packages.
Does the FT MiM ranking apply to executive certificate programmes?
No. The FT Masters in Management ranking evaluates pre-experience and early-career full-time master’s degree programmes, using alumni outcomes roughly three years after graduation alongside school-level data. Executive certificate and senior management programmes for working professionals are outside its scope. A high FT rank is evidence about the institute’s faculty and academic standing, not a rating of any particular executive programme.
Which institutes have programmes open through VCNow right now?
Four: IIM Ahmedabad with the Senior Management Programme, XLRI Jamshedpur with four programmes, IIM Calcutta with three programmes and IIM Indore with three programmes — 11 open programmes in total as of 15 September 2026. SPJIMR Mumbai and IIM Lucknow are also VCNow academic partners, with next batch dates yet to be announced.
What is the earliest application deadline among these programmes?
30 September 2026, shared by six programmes: IIM Calcutta APSLC and EPBCL, XLRI PGCBM, PGCHRM and EDPLLM, plus IIM Indore’s Advanced Programme in Corporate Strategy and Business Leadership and its Family Business Management programme. The IIM Indore CSR programme closes 15 October, the IIM Ahmedabad SMP on 18 October, and IIM Calcutta APSL and XLRI ASHA on 31 October 2026.
Do I have to visit campus, or is everything online?
All 11 open programmes are blended. Weekly teaching happens in live online sessions, and each programme includes an on-campus module that is mandatory for certification in most cases. Campus commitments range from 3 days (IIM Indore) to 12 days across three visits (IIM Ahmedabad SMP). Check the specific requirement on the programme page before you apply.
Do these programmes award a degree or alumni status?
None of them awards a degree. They award certificates issued by the institute — a Postgraduate Certificate from XLRI for PGCBM and PGCHRM, and Certificates of Completion for the IIM programmes. Alumni provisions differ: IIM Calcutta programmes include Executive Education alumni status, IIM Ahmedabad’s SMP includes alumni status, XLRI ASHA offers optional executive alumni status, and IIM Indore programmes require separate paid alumni membership (INR 1,000 + GST for two years or INR 10,000 + GST for life).
What exactly does VCNow do in these programmes?
The partner institute owns the academic side — curriculum, faculty, assessment and the certificate. VCNow handles delivery: live virtual classroom technology in Direct-to-Device and centre-based modes, learning-centre infrastructure, cohort administration and learner support. VCNow has worked in videoconferencing-based executive education for over 20 years and reports completion rates above 95%.
