The short answer
The IIM Nagpur Blended MBA in Data Science and Management is a two-year, 84-credit MBA degree. It combines a full management core with Python, analytics, AI and GenAI. Classes run on Friday and Saturday evenings and on Sundays, with four 5-day campus visits, so you can keep your job. To apply, you need a bachelor’s degree with 50% marks, at least 3 years of work experience and an entrance test score.
Where VCNow fits: Among the IIM programmes on VCNow, this is the only one that gives you a full MBA degree and a data science focus together. It costs ₹12.1 lakh, compared with ₹20 lakh for IIM Ahmedabad’s Blended PGP.
What this article covers
1. Why data science and management now go together
Indian companies do not lack data any more. What they lack are managers who can turn that data into sound business decisions. According to a 2024 Nasscom–Deloitte study, India’s AI workforce stood at about 6–6.5 lakh people and needs to cross 12.5 lakh by 2027. The same study expects India’s AI market to grow at 25–35% a year.

Moreover, the gap is not only about coders. An IIM Ahmedabad–BCG study found that India’s top 500 companies will need 25,000–30,000 advanced AI and ML practitioners. More importantly, it said their senior and middle managers “would require a minimum of a million hours of training.” In other words, managers must learn to lead with AI, not just hire for it.

86%
of employers expect AI and data processing to transform their business by 2030 (WEF)
11 million

Globally, the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report 2025 names big data specialists as the fastest-growing job between 2025 and 2030. AI and machine learning specialists come third on the same list.
What industry leaders say
“Despite tremendous growth in AI-capable professions, the demand for AI is outpacing the supply of competent personnel.” — Sathish Gopalaiah, President, Technology and Transformation, Deloitte South Asia
“The challenge will be to bridge the significant skills gap in order to fully capitalise on this shift.” — Sangeeta Gupta, Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer, Nasscom
The IIM Nagpur programme puts this idea in one line. Analytics and AI without management is “a toolset,” and management without analytics and AI is “a guess.” That is exactly the gap this MBA tries to close.
2. IIM Nagpur Blended MBA at a glance
IIM Nagpur was set up in 2015 under the mentorship of IIM Ahmedabad, and it now ranks among India’s top 25 management institutes in NIRF 2025. Its blended MBA is a degree, not a short course. As VCNow’s programme page puts it: “Not a certificate of participation. A Master of Business Administration, conferred by IIM Nagpur.”
Prof. Sujeet Kumar Sharma leads the programme. He is a Professor in Decision Science and Information Systems with over 23 years of teaching in India, Oman and Bahrain, and 40 international journal papers. Earlier, he served as MBA Director at Sultan Qaboos University, Muscat.
3. The programme philosophy in three ideas
Three principles shape how IIM Nagpur designed this MBA. Each one tells you what kind of graduate the programme wants to produce.
Fluency over familiarity
Knowing the buzzwords is not enough. You learn to read models, question data and talk to data teams with confidence.
Application over abstraction
Case studies, business simulations and a live field project keep theory tied to real business problems.
Leadership as the destination
Technical skills serve one goal: helping you make better decisions and lead teams that use data and AI.
4. Why a blended MBA suits working professionals
A full-time MBA asks you to stop working for two years. A purely online MBA, on the other hand, often misses the in-person network that makes an IIM degree valuable. The blended model sits in between: you learn live online through the week and meet your batch on campus four times.
The Hirist programme listing names nine advantages of this format:
So how much time does it really take? Here is the weekly live class schedule.

Apart from this, you spend four 5-day immersion modules at the IIM Nagpur campus. That adds up to about 20 days on campus across two years, which most employers can plan around as leave.
5. Programme highlights in numbers
Numbers tell you how deep a programme really goes. Here is what the IIM Nagpur Blended MBA packs into two years.

credits across 8 terms
480

Beyond the numbers, a few features stand out:
6. Eligibility, candidate profile and admission dates
Who can apply for the IIM Nagpur Blended MBA?
The programme suits mid-to-senior managers, IT professionals, functional leaders and entrepreneurs. In short, it is for anyone who already manages work and now wants to manage it with data and AI.

Tip: do not wait for the deadline
The entrance test (22 November) and interview (29 November) both fall before the 30 November deadline. So, apply early enough to register for the test.
7. Year 1 curriculum, term by term
Year 1 builds the base. Over four terms and 480 hours, you study data science and the full MBA core side by side, so each new skill has a business use from day one.

As the split shows, this is not a data science course with a few management lectures added. Instead, it is a real MBA in which close to half the core is data and technology.
8. Year 2 electives and specialisation tracks
From Term V to Term VIII, you choose electives from a tentative list of 24 courses. These line up with four tracks:

On the AI side, the list includes Generative AI for Managers, Agentic AI, Natural Language Processing, Conversational AI, Implementing AI in Your Organization, and Ethics, Privacy and Regulations in AI. For analytics, you can pick Prescriptive Analytics, Managerial Predictive Analytics, Time Series Analysis and Forecasting, Recommendation Systems and Data Monetization and Governance. Meanwhile, courses such as Managing ERP in the Digital Age and IoT, Cloud Computing, Blockchain and Industry 4.0 cover the systems side.
9. Fees, value and how it compares
IIM Nagpur Blended MBA fee structure
The total fee is ₹12,10,000, excluding a ₹2,500 application fee. You pay it in five parts, so the cost spreads across the two years.

| Instalment I | ₹1,98,750 |
| Instalment II | ₹3,06,250 |
| Instalment III | ₹2,98,750 |

| Programme | Credential | Data & AI focus | Format & duration | Fee |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| IIM Nagpur Blended MBA in Data Science & Management | Full MBA degree + IIM alumni status; NIRF top 25 (2025) | Built in: Python/R, AI, GenAI, Agentic AI, NLP + full MBA core | Blended: weekend live classes + 4 campus immersions; 2 years | ₹12.1 lakh all-in |
| IIM Ahmedabad Blended PGP (BPGP) | Full MBA degree + IIMA alumni status; NIRF #1 (2025) | General management; no dedicated data science track | Blended; 2 years (extendable to 3) | ₹20 lakh |
| IIM Calcutta Advanced Programme in Data Sciences | Certificate; triple accredited | Strong data science; no MBA core | Executive programme; 12 months | ₹4.8 lakh + 18% GST |
| Dr. D.Y. Patil Online MBA | Online MBA degree; UGC/AICTE approved, NAAC A | AI & ML or Business Analytics as one of 15+ specialisations | Fully online; 2 years | ₹1,89,400 |
How to read this table
IIM Ahmedabad carries the strongest brand, but it costs about ₹7.9 lakh more and does not centre on data science. On the other hand, IIM Calcutta’s programme is strong on data but gives a certificate, not a degree. The D.Y. Patil MBA is the cheapest, yet it is fully online and lacks an IIM network. For a full IIM MBA degree with data science and AI built into the core, IIM Nagpur offers the best overall value of the four.
A realistic example: what it costs a working manager
Take Rahul (an illustrative case), a 32-year-old supply chain manager in Pune with 7 years of experience and an annual salary of ₹18 lakh. A two-year full-time MBA would mean giving up about ₹36 lakh of salary, even before paying any fees.
With the IIM Nagpur Blended MBA, by contrast, Rahul keeps his job and his salary. He pays ₹12.1 lakh in five parts over two years, attends about 13 hours of live classes a week, and takes around 20 days of leave for campus immersions. His 60-hour field project tackles a live business problem under IIM Nagpur faculty guidance. As a result, his total cost comes to roughly one-third of the salary he would lose in a full-time MBA.

10. Frequently asked questions
Is the IIM Nagpur Blended MBA a full MBA degree or a certificate?
It is a full MBA degree. IIM Nagpur confers the Master of Business Administration at its Annual Convocation, and graduates also get IIM Nagpur Alumni status. This sets it apart from most executive programmes, which give only a certificate.
What is the total fee for the IIM Nagpur Blended MBA in Data Science and Management?
The total fee is ₹12,10,000, excluding the ₹2,500 application fee. You pay ₹1,00,000 as the offer acceptance fee and the balance in four instalments of ₹1,98,750, ₹3,06,250, ₹2,98,750 and ₹3,06,250.
Do I need coding experience to apply?
No. The programme does not ask for prior coding experience. A preparatory bridge module covers basic maths, statistics and analytics, and Term I teaches computing with Python and R from the start.
How much time does the programme need each week?
Live online classes add up to about 13 hours a week: Friday and Saturday from 6:30 PM to 9:45 PM, and Sunday from 10:00 AM to 1:15 PM and 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM. On top of this, you attend four 5-day campus immersions over the two years.
